In order to diversify incomes, to alleviate poverty and to reduce vulnerability to external shocks, Trax Ghana provides its farmers with the necessary knowledge and materials to venture into a range of livelihoods beyond wet-season agriculture, including:
- apiculture;
- dry-season gardening;
- baobab and shea processing;
- soap production;
- as well as artisanal businesses.
Ensuring access to a livelihood source beyond wet-season farming provides farming communities with income throughout the year. It also means that the risks associated with farming are spread across multiple sources of income – if a crop is lost or harvest is low due to external shocks such as drought, flooding, pests and diseases, farmers have an alternative livelihood source to draw on for income.
