Sustainable Agriculture

In order to increase food security and alleviate poverty, Trax Ghana provides its farmers with skills and equipment in the areas of:

  • integrated soil fertility management (ISFM) through methods such as contour identification, stone bunding, grass stripping, composting, crop residue management, cover cropping, and alley cropping;
  • agro-forestry through the establishment of tree nurseries, woodlot establishment, and non-timber forest product enterprise development;
  • and crop-livestock farming through the construction of improved animal pens, application of farm-yard manure, distribution of donkey/ox carts, and small ruminant payback scheme.

These practices support low external input sustainable agriculture (LEISA), resulting in agricultural practices that are in harmony with the local environment and do not require expensive inputs so farmers can sustain these methods.
